Primary Nursing Practicum —

Overview
This is a five day intensive practicum on Primary Nursing, (the core of Relationship-Based Care) designed and delivered by Marie Manthey. The first offering of its kind, this program is a combination of lecture, discussion, unit visits, and specific solutions to common problems that have been implemented on nursing care units in various hospital through out the nation.

Participants in this intensive practicum will benefit from Marie’s years of experience facilitating the implementation of this concept both in the USA and in other countries.

Objectives of the Practicum
At the completion of this program, participants will:

  • Understand how Primary Nursing was developed with special emphasis on the role of staff nurses in its creation.
  • Be able to describe the role and relationship changes required for a successful implementation.
  • Describe the unique implementation program that works for this particular change process.
  • Articulate the leadership role of both formal and informal leaders necessary for ongoing success.
  • Use strategies to sustain the system and avoid common pitfalls that restrict growth of professional practice.
  • Teaching methods used include lecture and discussion, as well as round table dialogues with managers and staff currently using Primary Nursing. Visits to local Primary Nursing units can be arranged.
