Areas of Expertise Marie Manthey is president emeritus of Creative Health Care Management. Throughout her career, Marie has held positions in virtually every level of the nursing profession, from staff nurse to vice president of patient services. In the 1960s Marie developed the concept of Primary Nursing. In 1979 she began a health care consulting service, Creative Nursing Management. This consulting firm grew and evolved into the present-day Creative Health Care Management.
Marie's professional career also includes several academic positions. She currently serves as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing. She also served as an associate professor at the University of Connecticut, an associate clinical professor at Yale University School of Nursing, and an assistant professor at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing.
Marie designed and implemented Primary Nursing systems for hospitals worldwide, and is the author of The Practice of Primary Nursing. She has written dozens of articles on nursing issues and conducted more than 500 nursing seminars on a variety of management and leadership topics. In 1994 she was elected to the Royal College of Nursing in the United Kingdom, at that time one of only four Americans to be so honored. She became a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 1998.
Marie received her nursing diploma from St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Chicago and her bachelor of science degree and her master's degree in nursing administration from the University of Minnesota. In 1999 Marie received an honorary Doctorate from the University of Minnesota School of Nursing, the first ever awarded by the school.
